Why was Eid-ul-fitr so Boring this Year?

This year Eid-ul-fitr was really boring. Its not just me saying this, most Pakistanis agree with the fact that Eid-ul-fitr was dull comparing to previous years. It is believed that Eid holidays were long enough to travel and have vacations before scorching summers start.

However there are deep down psychological, cultural and technological aspects that shaped collective behavior of society towards most important events religiously. I concluded many reasons behind Eid became slow and uninteresting. Here are three major reasons I assume made Eid boring this year.

Change in Cultural and Traditional Behaviors :

As society tends to progress, so do the interests and values. As we proceed in life, digital advancements and entertainment increase, which tends to make focus of individual experiences high and the traditional religious events may get less engaging. Personally I believe that shouldn’t be, as everyone should sit together and spend time, no matter how busy they are. Eid is a religious event that we could spend with our families and make the three days special.

Personal Disconnection to Religious Values:

I genuinely believe that this is also a reason why Eid has become so uninteresting, as personally we have disconnected from out religions and tend to do all sorts of things we aren’t without caring about what our religion says about our actions. We usually just celebrate the religious event and we know what we have to do traditionally but we tend to forget why we are doing it, for example traditionally when we sacrifice perhaps a goat or sheep as we should, but we forget why we are sacrificing an animal and what connection we should feel with our religion while doing so. Many people just attended Eid out of habit, instead of genuine engagement leading to boredom.

Technology is Fancy Distraction :

I also believe that this is another reason why Eid, not just Eid but many traditional religious events have become boring to us. With the increase of digital technology and ease of accessing entertainment in wide range and spiritual content online, people have forgotten the traditional values of religious events. People are connecting to each other through technology, spreading news through technology, what can technology not do? It can also disconnect people from your religion and other important aspects of your life.

Eid tends to be boring as people have forgotten all the values and significance this ritual holds for us or at least used to hold. People are changing according to advancements made in our society, according to modern technology and all that is perfectly alright but we shouldn’t forget our religious or traditional values and significance of different events and rituals.
