Exploitation of Labourer rights is un-Islamic

Workers who do meager jobs play a vital role in the progress of society, yet many of them are deprived of their basic rights. Islam places great emphasis on justice, fairness, and dignity in labour

However, in Pakistan, thousands of workers, especially domestic servants, construction workers, and daily wage earners, face severe hardships, including unfair wages, delayed payments, and unsafe working conditions. Islam upholds the rights of workers and ensures their fair treatment.

The prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said,

“Give the worker his wages before his sweat dries” (Sunan-Ibn- Majah),

highlighting the importance of timely payments. Unfortunately, many workers in our country receive low wages that are insufficient to meet their basic needs. Domestic workers, in particular, suffer from long
working hours, lack of job security, and in extreme cases, verbal or even physical abuse. Many do not have access to medical care or legal protection, leaving them vulnerable to exploitation. To address this serious issue, the government must enforce labour laws more strictly and ensure that all workers receive fair wages and timely payments. Employers should be educated on the Islamic principles of justice and kindness toward workers. Additionally, awareness campaigns should be conducted so that workers know their rights and can stand against unfair treatment Strict penalties should also be imposed on those who violate labor laws.

As members of civil society and aware of Islamic values it is imperative to us that we urge the authorities to take immediate action to ensure that all labourers are treated with the dignity and fairness that Islam commands. It is hence expected that this issue will be given serious attention and necessary reforms will be implemented to protect the rights of workers in our country.
