Labourer’s Rights and Islamic Teachings

The Constitution of Pakistan guarantees equality before the law, prohibits forced and child labor, and secures the freedom to form unions and engage in collective bargaining
I am writing to draw attention to the everyday.

In recent years Pakistan’s domestic and manual labourers have to face several challenges to earn their rights. Despite Pakistan’s labor laws are made to protect workers’ rights, ensuring safe working conditions, and promote fair labor practices. However right violations of workers in different ways continues.

It is pertinent to mention that in Islamic country, all sectors of life in general and labourours in particular should not face inequalities and improve their situation in the light of Islamic teachings. It is only possible when Islamic teachings are enforced in letter and spirit.

labourers in different sectors are discriminated in this society in various aspects including low wages, and exceedingly delayed payments. Islam clearly teaches us that a fair hard worker’s wages should be
paid early, more appropriately on time, and never delayed. Hence it is important to pay wages on time. Labourers also face lack of respect and dignity, and are often forced to work in poor working conditions. Islam teaches us to respect any fair worker whose job involves using the hands.

Many laws are made to protect right of labourers however the don’t enjoy legal protection or job security. Many laborers work without contracts, referring to exploitation where they can lose job at any moment without notice. Moreover they face exploitation and abuse, discrimination in public places, and have limited access to healthcare and other benefits mainly in private sector. Child labour is another aspect which needs urgent attention.

Looking for solution solutions and suggestion It is recommended:

  1. Islamic teachings are practiced and established.
  2. Authorities to take action by a strict law enforcement
  3. accountability for one’s hurtful actions.
  4. Advocacy campaigns should be run to create awareness, make people more sensitive before acting, and the phrase,

“Think before you act”, Is enforced.

Where as Pakistan’s labor laws are comprehensive, enforcement is inconsistent due to limited resources and lake of will.. The government and employers must work together to ensure compliance and protect workers’ rights. In end Islam is only solution and Shariy’aa Laws can ensure the safety and security of workers on every level.
